Tackle Football
Regular-season practice and next steps
Updated October 25, 2026: Cougar families, the tackle regular season is in progress! Practice meets Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00-8:00 PM, and Saturday, 9:00-11:00 AM, at Lum Field. The address is Lum Ave, Chatham, NJ 07928.
Before your next session, read the coach's team message for changes and equipment instructions. Confirm the next game's location and arrival time with your team. Tell the coach about an absence or equipment problem before practice.
Our tackle program welcomes grades 4-8 and teaches football fundamentals, safe technique and sportsmanship. New families should ask about current availability and their grade's practice expectations before enrolling.
Practice and game destinations
Our players learn stance, blocking, tackling, running, throwing and catching. In grades 4-5, simple plays leave more time for technique. Sixth grade adds punting and extra-point kicking. Older players work on more advanced assignments, with safe execution guiding game participation.
Practices meet at Lum Field Complex. Our home games use Cougar Field at Chatham High School, 255 Lafayette Ave / 314 Shunpike Rd, Chatham, NJ 07928. Read the practice schedule with your coach's latest note. Away games require travel to neighboring communities in the NJSYFL.
Equipment help and completed preseason fitting
Need a fitting or an equipment check now? Contact your coach with your player's grade and the item needing attention. Ask for an appointment and what to bring. Check any required deposit amount and payee with the coach; those details are not listed here.
The preseason fitting took place Monday August 17, 2026, from 5:00 PM by grade at Lum Field House. Families were asked to bring an equipment deposit check for helmet, helmet cover and shoulder-pad fitting. The address is Lum Ave, Chatham, NJ 07928. That August event has passed.
The 2025 equipment archive records the previous season's handout. Use your coach's current arrangements for equipment help.
New tackle families
Your player's effort and practice attendance help them learn assignments and prepare for games. Playing-time expectations change by grade. Ask the coach to explain them so your family understands the weekly commitment.
Questions for the coach
- Which session should my player attend?
- What equipment should we bring?
- Where is the meeting point?
- What is the pickup plan?
Keep those answers together for the adult handling rides. Include the event date so an older message does not become the pickup plan.
Clinic notice
The 2025 Tip of the Spear article records an earlier clinic. Read our clinic archive for its background. Ask your coach for any new session's instructions.
Weather and team messages
Coaches post the weather call in TeamSnap. Use TeamSnap sign in before leaving home.
Share a changed plan with whoever is driving your player. Ask the coach if a message is unclear.
Volunteers and donations
Could you lend a hand this season? Tell us when you can help. Parents give their time to keep Cougar football going, and every family brings a different schedule.
Donors help cover shoulder pads, NOCSAE-certified helmets, youth scholarships and turf time. Thank you to everyone who gives time or money to our teams!
